I was a victim of the flooding on September 23 in Pine Island. We were already struggling financially, and now we are unsure how and when we will get our basement refinished. My oldest son (almost 6 years) slept in the basement, and is now sleeping in our room. We finished our basement 6 years ago when we moved in, and now we will have to do it again. It would sure be nice if FEMA or the state could help us financially in this already stressful and exhausting time. Thanks for your nice words in your update!

Hi Steve, We live on a farm south of the Zumbro River near Millville. The flood damage to our property has been amazing... (for lack of words...) we are missing acres of our land, massive trees are uprooted (we basically lost all of the woods along the river), our entire corn crop is under feet of sand, and the wood piles where the water created a new path are giagantic, We have worked diligently to remove the remnents from homes up river of us and I suppose that I could go on about the damage, but don't want to waste your time- as I am sure that you have witnessed the power of water in our neighborhood. Where do we go for help? What about all of the sand? Where the sand is not present, we have huge holes that the water has washed out. Do you know where we can get soil? So many questions???? Although our land suffered much worse than our house... and because of the severity of everyone else's damage....I don't want to take your attention away from other family's whose plight is so much worse... we got our phone back !!! Our road has been replaced.... So many people have worked so hard in order for us to not feel stranded...We appreciate the kindness we have been shown. Just wondering if we should be in contact with someone in order to help Wabasha county get the diasaster aid declaration???? How do we let people know that we need clean fil/dirt and have LOTS of sand that needs "a new home"? Thank you so much for your time and help. Dennis and Julie Makoutz 1-507-798-2518 (During the day we are outside working. Sorry about any inconvenience this may cause when calling us. Maybe e-mail may be better????)Thank you very much for your time and help.
